How long has it been since you’ve seen a dentist? Is not knowing what to expect holding you back from making an appointment? We would like to help you by dispelling the air of mystery that may surround dental exams for you.
What happens in a dental visit?
At your first appointment, we will ask you about your health history so that we can have a better idea of how to care for you and your teeth. We may ask you if there have been any changes to your medications or health conditions at your follow up appointments so that we can continue to provide you with the most suitable care.
Most of your dental visits will probably be checkups to prevent major problems from developing. In most cases, a hygienist will perform a thorough cleaning in which plaque and tartar will be removed from below your gum line. Our dentist can then perform the examination to look for signs of disease or decay. Our goal is to prevent any issues from becoming worse and to maintain your health.
Our dentist may recommend that you have some x-rays done depending on your symptoms, age or risk of disease. X-rays can be helpful to diagnose problems that could otherwise be unseen like decay between the teeth, damage to jawbones, impacted teeth etc. Modern x-ray machines can emit very little radiation; in fact, you could probably get more radiation from a weekend in the sun. However, you should wear a dental apron to be safe. You should also let us know if you know you are pregnant.
We recommend that you visit the dentist every six months for a checkup to help prevent major problems. If you are in the Decatur, Texas, area and would like to make an appointment with Dr. Tran Dang, please call Forever Teeth at 940-626-4441 today.
